Take your products to the next level and personalise them with a range of options that will offer a strong and distinctive identification. Teammates Australasia utilises the latest technology, equipment and processes with all decorative options available. Virtually anything can be decorated by using one or more different methods.
The below information provides a brief overview of the artwork requirements, associated set-up fees and decorative pricing variables.
Ideally artwork should be supplied as a “Vector Art File With Curves” which ensures the artwork and fonts are perfect for any of the available decoration methods. This type of file can be supplied as a PDF, EPS or other common designer’s formats. Where this type of file is not available, artwork can be supplied as a high resolution file, original photographs, film, disc (PC or Mac format) and e-mail (PC or Mac format). Most file formats are supported with JPG, .BMP, .TIF, or .EPS preferred. At least 300 dpi computer files will give the best result on the final decorative product.
Facsimile transmissions do not provide a good source for artwork, particularly for printing options.
Decorative Pricing Variables
As a general rule the cost of decorating any item is based on the number of colours involved in the image, whether there is more than one position or image to be applied, and the number of items to be decorated. Embroidery is the exemption where the stitch-count determines the price rather than the number of colours involved.
Initial set-up fees apply with virtually every form of decoration and are quoted separately to the decoration costs. They generally apply only to the first decoration run with some methods also incurring reduced or no set-up fees for repeat runs.
Set-up fees are charged to cover initial set-up costs such as putting an image onto film, making a printing plate or setting up a jig to ensure each item is decorated in exactly the same position. Initial set-ups can be a lengthy process which is why it is usual to have up-front fees on the first run rather than amortise these fees into the decoration costs and pay them again and again on repeat runs.
Set up fees may vary between the decorative options depending on what is involved in setting up the job.
The below alphabetical information provides a brief overview of the main decorating options for sporting and recreational requirements
Appliqué (Fusible Web)
In appliqué one layer of fabric is placed over another layer of fabric and is sewn into place. Appliqué offers a great option to embroidery, particularly on larger sized and higher stitch-count jobs. Utilising multiple pieces of lightweight fusible web, large designs can be achieved without the weight that would normally be associated with a large embroidery job. This is particularly useful for logo’s applied to the back of shirts and jackets.
Decals are normally used to decorate porcelain, glass and ceramic items. These decals with one or more colours are produced, then applied to the item (such as coffee mugs) and placed in an oven for up to 6-8 hours at a temperature of 800 degrees. This almost melts the image onto the item leaving a very permanent decoration.
Digital Heat Transfers are made using a computer for the image (digital) and then outputting the image to a laser printer, colour copier, inkjet printer, or wax thermal printer. The outputted paper/transfer is then applied to the garment under a heat and pressure combination to provide a sharp, perfect image with great durability.
Leather, PVC and paper items are often embossed. The process of stamping an item (such as diaries or folders) with either an image in silver or gold foil is an example of embossing. A block is made of the image and then the image is stamped onto the object. Certain objects (such as leather items) can also be blind embossed leaving an image indented into the product without either silver or gold foil involved.
Embroidery is a method of stitching a logo onto clothing, hats, bags, towels and many other items. Multiple colours are available and it is the only multiple coloured process that does not have a separate charge or separate set up fee for each colour.
The logo being reproduced is digitised by using a specialised embroidery digitising software. The cost of embroidery is based on the number of stitches in the design and the number of items being embroidered.
All manner of logo’s, designs positions and styles are available through recent advances in embroidery equipment and techniques. With a multitude of threads available to suit almost any colour, shade or application required, embroidery is an effective option when wanting to create a strong and lasting presence.
Etching is a similar process to laser engraving and is used as a method of decorating glassware with a permanent image. The image appears to be coarser in comparison to the rest of the glass.
Foil Stamping/ Printing
Foil printing is a process where a metallic foil is heated onto a product using a hot logo’d stamp. The effect is a very distinctive metallic finish. Items which can be foil printed include compendiums and other vinyl or leather products.
Laser engraving is used primarily on metal type objects. Stainless steel items and silver or gold metal objects are often laser engraved with an image as an alternative to pad or screen printing.
Metal Logos (Laser Engraved)
Laser engraved logos purvey the same image as the moulded metal logos, but are more practical for smaller quantities and ‘subtle’ branding. Available for bags and caps.
Metal Logos (Moulded)
Strong durable metal logos represent your brand in the best possible way. Available for bags and caps.
Pad printing is a process of using a silicone pad to lift up an image from a printing plate after it has been inked and transferring the image to another surface. Each colour requires an individual plate. There are restrictions on how large an image can be depending on the type of product. Items traditionally pad printed include pens, pencils, key rings and a wide range of promotional and small gift items.
This is a process of applying a transfer (sticker) with one or more colours to an item. Transfers are often used on products that have a rough surface (such as bags or hats) where screen printing cannot reproduce the registration, or fine lines that may be part of the image being reproduced.
Moulded rubber logos are the latest innovation for logo placement. They are stylish, cost effective and excellent for those looking for ‘subtle’ branding. These can be made with a solid or transparent base. This is a good option for using as zipper pullers on jackets and bags.
Screen (Process) Printing
When a full colour printed logo is required, process printing provides excellent reproduction quality and is durable and hard wearing. Ideal for back packs, sports bags and all types of shirts and apparel. Screen printing is a process where an art screen in placed over an item (such as a shirt) and ink is then applied over the screen. Each colour requires an individual screen.
Almost without exception there is an ink that can be used for every type of available fabric. Prints can be done using metallic, nylon, silicon (high density), glitter and rubber inks, or your standard plastisol variety. Flat, raised, puff print and other new and innovative variations are all options to consider when designing printing choices. Printing can also be done seam-to-seam on finished clothing if required.
Sublimation is a process of transferring a photo or picture from a sheet and applying it to an object (such as shirts or coffee mugs) and is ideal for creating a totally individual look.
