Welcome to the first of many blogs as we share our experiences, observations and opinions about all things sport. Over the coming weeks, months and years we will be talking about Australian and International sport in general, their sporting teams and governing bodies as well as industry news as seen through the eyes of our own team here at TeamMates Australasia. Thought provoking- yes, controversial- probably at times, opinionated- will try not to be J We will look to engage our followers on what we are blogging about and get your opinions. Should be fun so please feel free to comment when and if you feel like it.
We thought that for our first blog that we should start with a little about the thinking behind the TeamMates model and the mindset and culture of the people driving it; after all it will be a name you won’t be too familiar with just yet!
“If you are not taking care of your customer, your competitor will”– Bob Hooey. This quote underpins everything that TeamMates Australasia is built on and is the measuring stick we use with all areas of our business. If we are brainstorming new ideas or looking to change something we do, we use this quote as the benchmark to make sure what we are discussing is relevant to this before we implement. Whilst we work in the business of supplying clubs with tangible products for a price and have many, many competitors, it is the intangibles that we look to build on that will set us apart from the rest and ensure our clients are taken care of. This same quote we also apply to our customers own clubs and work with them by looking at their club compared to their competitors (other clubs in their area or association and for that matter other sporting codes) and endeavour to create the most compelling story we can for their members and constituents to ensure they don’t lose members and players to their competitors. The ‘innovate + collaborate’ is the point of difference that we strive to communicate to the marketplace.
Creating the right culture to foster this mindset is a big part of how anything we put together is undertaken. You only have to look as far as the Australian Cricket team and the current Ashes series to understand why we see culture as being so important to get right. The current crop of Australian players isn’t that different to what has been around in the recent ‘dark times’ where we haven’t been up to the task against nations we used to walk over. Whilst I am not for one second suggestion this is the only reason, but a change in the culture of the dressing room through the appointment of Darren Lehmann and the way he goes about things suddenly has our bowlers who were previously rolling their arms over now being lethal strike bowlers. Our batsman who seemed to have lost the belief in their ability to occupy the crease suddenly taking on the bowlers and making runs. Whilst there are still players trying to find form, the change in culture is infectious and will go a long way to helping them find the form that won’t be too far away.
Looking after your customers above and beyond that of others whilst doing this with the right culture are two key ingredients we believe are at the forefront of anything worthwhile and just like the Australian Cricket Team, we believe we are finding some form and can only go from strength to strength from here. Hopefully for the Australian Cricket Team we get more photo’s like this one over the coming months!
Until next time….
